Plight of the cursed child
Chapter 13: Get ready for midterms
The deception of the demon was over, as he was defeated by a hooded figure. The person gave themself away that they were an angel, but it left much to question. Who was that person? Are they an ally? It left much questions that I wanted to find out.
"......u" said a voice. I was sitting in my classroom thinking about the day we met the strange hooded person. I kept wondering about the person that I did not notice the voice and ignored it.
"Who was that person? Could that person be our ally?" I kept thinking to myself constantly, hoping it could be true. I realized that I was in deep thought until an annoyed voice interrupted me.
"MIKU!" said the voice again. This time, it was loud enough where I could hear and pay attention. I looked at who yelled and it was Yuzu. She almost never yelled unless something was angering her.
"Yes Yuzu?" I said sheepishly.
"Jeez, Miku. You rarely space out." she said pouting.
"I'm sorry. It's just something was on my mind." I said apologetically.
"Is it a new guy you just met and wanted to know who this person is?" she said smugly.
"No! It's not like that." I said embarrassed. She wasn't wrong though because it is a person I just met who I wanted to know. My reaction seemed to satisfy Yuzu though.
"Anyways...." she said sighing, "Are you going to be ok for the midterms? They are coming up soon" she asked with concern.
"I'll be fine Yuzu. I've never failed midterms before, so why now?" I said confidently. My response somehow made Yuzu smile.
"There's the normal Miku." she said with a smile. "Do your best and don't get overconfident now." she said as she headed off to her seat. I decided to not worry about that mysterious person for now and just focus on work.
Class went by really fast after I chose to stop fussing over that hooded figure. Both me and Amane walked together after the last school bell rang, and we could go home. I decided to talk about the midterms because I wanted Amane to stop worrying about the new potential enemy. His face more than showed that he was tense.
"Amane, are you going to be ready for the midterms?" I said, showing him a smile with a bit of concern. I wanted to ease his troubles, even if it was just a little. He looked at me and gave me an even more worried look as if I had just hit a sore spot.
"I'm not." he said trying to smile but he couldn't and began shaking. "I'm not good at learning." he said shaking with an expression of fear. I panicked and quickly said something to get his mind off of his tension.
"Why don't I help you study?" I said quickly.
"Really?" he said with a bit of hope in his eyes.
"Sure, I'm ahead of my class thanks to advanced education, so I should be able to help you." I said confidently.
"Thank you Yukizaki." he said with a grateful expression.
"He makes me happy when he needs my help, I feel like his equal that way" I thought to myself cheerfully. I always relied on Amane so this was a chance to return the favor.
When we both got home, we instantly went upstairs.
"Let's go study in my room." I suggested thinking about studying rather than what that would mean for my situation. Before I could consider my consequences of sitting next to the boy I liked, Amane responded with an "Ok." I had a brief moment to pause and prepare myself mentally and then we went up to my room. I opened the door and both of us entered my room and sat down at the mini table near my bed. I looked around and saw that my closet was still broken, meaning I still fooled mom into thinking it was ok. Also, it was a good thing I was a person who made it a habit to clean my room. Thus, I can avoid the cliche messy room scenario. We both sat next to each other and we laid out our books and study materials for the midterms.
"OHH GOD, he's right next to me!" I squealed in my mind. I was excited and tried my best to remain calm and composed. I remembered that I was here to help Amane, so I had to control myself and not get embarrassed. While I was busy having a self talk to myself, I did not realize that Amane had finished a lot of the work. I took a quick check as he continued working.
"You have most of this wrong Amane." I said pointing out the errors. After that, I explained to him the steps to do the problems and explained what he got wrong.
"Ohh, I get it now." Amane said nodding in understanding. Then he gave a beautiful smile.
"This is much easier since you are helping me Yukizaki" he said happily. The smile he gave off was something of a gemstone.
"I-I-It's my joy to see you approve." I said shyly as I turned to look away to hide my face. From there, we continued to study for the next 3 hours, until we heard mom call us to come down for dinner.
"Let's go Amane." I said, as I stood up and began to walk towards my door. I was too busy feeling happy that I helped Amane, that I accidentally tripped and fell on the floor near my bookshelf. Amane walked up to me and gave a smile, as he was trying to hide his laughter.
"Are you ok?" he said.
"Yeah." I replied. Amane kneeled down to help me up, but he tripped as well, losing his balance and diving towards me. Had he not used his hands to break his fall, he would have landed face first on top of me. Still our position from an outsider's view made it look as if Amane pushed me down. We both remained in that position speechless and at the same time, showing off our embarrassed expressions to each other. Eventually, mom opened the door. She was about to say something when she saw me and Amane in our position still, where Amane was on top of me. She stayed silent until she gathered her thoughts.
"Fufu, Miku, I know you like him a lot, but you shouldn't go to this length already." she said jokingly. Both me and Amane immediately got up and broke out of the embarrassing situation.
"I-It's not like that mom!" I said flustered. The debate could have went on for hours, but we all decided to leave the matter alone and just eat dinner. After dinner, I continued to help Amane study for his exams.
On the day our results came, I met with Amane on the rooftop.
"So how did you do?" I asked with anticipation. Amane smiled and showed me his slip of paper. I looked at the results and he passed every one of them. I was happy for him.
"Good job Amane." I said as I smiled happily.
"It was thanks to you Yukizaki." he said with a handsome expression of gratitude.
His grateful expression meant much to me as it gave me proof, I can be equal to Amane. I continued to desire to be of use to Amane as he was to me, as we continued our quest to save the world. With the midterms over, me and Amane have conquered another obstacle, though not dangerous physically, it was indeed a challenge worthy to be conquered. With that in mind, me and Amane move forward to the next danger.
